Thoughts and Prayer

And so, what comes after heaven that's not
Heaven? Even Lucifer, having been
Hollowed out by lightning, cored by it, still
Called the sour sulfide lakes and charred meadows
That sprang up there, the dungscape, the sky tiled
With its constellate of apostate dead,
All this Lucifer still called Heaven.
And so, what comes after Heaven
If not itself? The end then is always
Just the beginning of the end of that end.
This is when we discover what evil
Really is: the end of endings; the death
Of change; that moment when you survey
What has fallen into your range of sight
And say this is good enough, this will do.
