Creaking, skeleton bells of trees
dissolve in a quilt of pale flurries.
Sap's accreted sweetness burdens
deeper trenches. Stars expel

sharp sparks of cold like swarms of bees
seeking hyle in air's flat terrors.
Here: spared shapes; the learnt-by-heart;
the balance over

earth; and husk's low drone.
