This marks an author's first online publication Stephen Matanle's poems have appeared in Passager, Poetry, and Brilliant Corners: A Journal of Jazz and Literature. He teaches in the M.F.A. program in Creative Writing & Publishing Arts at the University of Baltimore.

Still Life    

There is nothing ordinary, nothing
without a hint of cathedral light.
On the handle of a knife or a glass
tipped over. Stray glints and
shimmerings. The divinity of
viscera, shells, the iridescent eye.
