How I First Learned of the Invention of Darkness

A sixty-eight Cadillac

with throaty

          growl,

a gang

     of crickets

with surround sound

               chirps

make babies
          together

on a summer night—
                 children humming

like electric
          streetlights

in the                     darkness.
