Cattails

Mangy
cattails twitch—
a bullfrog
skitters off
ripples
of sunlight.

Broomsedge

Sweeping snowy
hillsides ablaze
at dusk—
my fingertips
burn.

Callous

Summers
squandered
marching
barefoot
across plots
of sun-spurred
stones.

Windfalls

Overripe
silences
nobody
can stomach—
waiting
for worms.
