Peter Kline

Peter Kline teaches writing at the University of San Francisco and Stanford University. A former Wallace Stegner Fellow, he has published poems in Ploughshares, Poetry, Tin House, the Best New Poets series, and the Verse Daily website. He is the author of two poetry collections, Deviants (SFASU Press, 2013), and Mirrorforms, which is forthcoming from Parlor Press/Free Verse Editions in the fall of 2019.

Mirrorform: Worrier

I know what it must be
but I can't bear to check.
Playing patience with a short deck;
Counting back from infinity

until it's time to see
that no one hid.  I've heard
even God has a safety word—
I know what it must be.
